Who We Are
Hi, my name is Keri Withers. Years ago, my family was changed by the miracle of adoption and my eyes were opened to the struggles of children in the foster care system. I started doing service projects to help those in need, but I always felt like I needed to do more. Then three years ago, I headed up a project to create and deliver duffle bags with basic supplies and comfort items to my local DHS agency. During this effort, I met Christie Blackford and we became fast friends as we shared a common interest in helping those who are vulnerable in our world. She encouraged me to follow my instincts, think bigger, and do more. So, Rayola was created. Rayola is named after a woman that I knew 23 years ago in Council Bluffs, Iowa. I was seven months pregnant and my Mom was hundreds of miles away. I met Rayola at our church and she took me under her wing. She taught me how to sew onesies out of old t-shirts, care for a sick child, and even can vegetables from a garden. Then in 2003, Rayola Wright died leaving behind her husband and six children. Her life of service, love, and devotion to others inspires this organization as we strive to honor her by upholding similar values. Now the organization ‘Rayola’ is here to serve the children and youth who suffer the consequences of other people’s actions. We are hoping to provide comfort, hope, and peace in the lives of those who need it most.
