Each week I wash and put new bedding on each persons bed in my home. That first night with new sheets and pillowcases is so comforting to me! I love the smell and feel of fresh linens.
To kick off next year the board at Rayola wanted to share this fresh start by having a pillowcase drive! We will be collecting handmade pillowcases made by ourselves, and anyone who wants to help, to give to kids in foster care. Anyone who can sew, or wants to learn to sew, can do this project. All it takes is 2-3 pieces of fabric totaling 1 yard and 2 inches, a sewing machine, scissors/rotary cutter, thread, and optionally a cutting board/quilters ruler. A pillowcase can be made within an hour, and the result is providing a clean, new pillowcase to a child or youth who is in the foster care system. This is a project that can be done on your own or with friends! You can make one or a dozen! It is fun, easy and so needed. These pillowcases are another way we want to show love and provide comfort for the children of our community.

If you have a larger group that would like to do many pillowcases and are needing some extra material, please email us. We have a limited supply of extra fabric and would love to share!
Each completed pillowcase will be given a 'Rayola' tag and will be distributed to local DHS agencies. They will give the kids in the foster care program the much needed pillowcases. The kids will keep them to use while in foster care and beyond. We thank you in advance for your contributions!
